SYNOPSIS
An anonymous old man wakes up in a sanatorium at an unspecified location. He suffers from amnesia induced by a virus. The people call it the “night” because it steals memories and leaves only darkness. The State steps in with a new program that can store memories and begins to harvest them all, “just in case.” But is the virus really of natural origin? Or was it engineered to provide the next generation with a fresh start (and the State with an easily controlled population)? Quarantine, resistance, riots… Slowly but surely, the old man starts questioning the authenticity of his own memories, while growing increasingly conscious of another truth. Essayistic and experimental, NIGHT HAS COME takes you on a fictional journey only a step away from reality.
For this film Peter Van Goethem assembled Royal Belgian Film Archive footage from the last century to create an original story, narrated by a fictional man as a memory piece. The movie alternates between amateur footage and footage of historical events that took place in Brussels. The fragments about Brussels were decontextualized, creating a post-apocalyptic tale tackling philosophical questions that easily competes with more traditional post-apo features.

Von prägenden Momenten bis zu aktuellen Highlights: Die Jukebox des Filter-Schwarms wird mit jeder Folge bunter. Dieses Mal: Frederik Van de Moortel. Der Belgier hat die Musik für zahlreiche Kinofilme komponiert, ist gefragter Sound Designer und am Theater aktiv. Dabei arbeitet er nicht nur im stillen Kämmerlein seines Antwerpener Studios, sondern gibt seine Expertise auch als Lehrer an die nächsten Generationen weiter. „I design sound“ sagt er über sich selbst. Ein Understatement, das nur Menschen droppen können, die mit so vielen Projekten gleichzeitig jonglieren, wie Jeff Mills früher bei einem DJ-Set Platten brauchte.

Started composing for a new animation film by Geert Broele in a Kris Mergan Production. Geert has created a strange but familiar world. We follow a few archetypical characters over the centuries. Musically it is quite the challenge, combining my own work with Piazolla and Nicole and Hugo. Long story but you will get to hear it when it is finished.

Very proud to announce a fantastic film by directors Laura Alvea and Jose Ortuno. Animas is a Spanish horror/psychological thriller and a trip into the mind of a teenage boy. I had the honour of composing the sound track for it, and also the title song. A complex mix of orchestral mayham and tight vintage synths. The film has been mixed, more news on the release expected shortly!

De kortfilm ‘Bloeistraat 11’ van Sabam-lid Nienke Deutz is geselecteerd voor de Internationale Competitie ‘Annecy’ (11 – 16 juni 2018).
Deze animatiefilm volgt het verhaal van twee meisjes aan het begin van hun puberteit: Wolk en Aap. In Bloeistraat 11 wordt gebruik gemaakt van 2D-animatie en stop-motion. Deze grafische benadering versterkt het verhaal rond vriendschap op een mooie, tedere en fragiele manier. De Belgische inzending werd uit 3.000 wereldwijde kandidaten gekozen.
Bloeistraat 11 is het resultaat van een VAF Wildcard voor animatie. Voor Nienke Deutz is dit haar debuut in de internationale animatiewereld. De kortfilm ontving ook een beurs van Sabam voor de originele filmmuziek. Deze werd geschreven door Frederik Van De Moortel.

Synopsis
Inseparable best friends spend their last summer holiday of childhood amusing themselves around the house. As summer progresses their bodies start to morph and shift and an awkwardness descends on their friendship. Puberty seems determined to interrupt their bond.
A minimal music composition using rusty objects and little toylike bells and objects. The metal music played by the brother and the dance music the girl are dancing to are also compositions of mine. Guitars on the metal track played by Styn Norga, and the voices on the dance track are; Max and Umi Schram.

Blazhko Ensemble is; Katrien Kolenberg (Cello) Frederik Van de Moortel (Hybrid bass and electronics) and Marc Horemans (Graphic score)
‘The Blazhko veil’ is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between Marc Horemans, Katrien Kolenberg, Frederik Van de Moortel and Ehsan Moravveji. They were inspired by astronomical research, more specifically by the registered data of the RR Lyrae variable stars. The scientists and the artists directed their attention towards the Blazhko effect of these data. Up until this day the effect can be understood as a primary form of disruption and chaos. Perhaps a better understanding of our existence is hidden in the effect. The close collaboration between artists and scientists led to a scientifically oriented audiovisual installation. The three entities; science, image and sound confronted each other and resulted in a sensory contribution to the astronomical discourse. The interrelated media or practices blur the lines between the factual and the longed for because if one intends to measure themselves against the cosmos, one appeals to reason and to intuition, to the factual and to the fictional, to the objective and the subjective.

Peter Monsaerts Le ciel flamand heeft dit weekend de Prijs voor Beste Film gewonnen
op het Internationaal Filmfestival in het Franse Aubagne (20-25 maart).

Le Ciel Flamand is de tweede speelfilm van Peter Monsaert, na het internationaal gelauwerde Offline.
In zijn nieuwe film zoomt hij in op de levens van drie generaties vrouwen. Monique en haar dochter Sylvie baten een baanbordeel uit op de grens van West-Vlaanderen en Frankrijk. Eline, het zesjarige dochtertje van Sylvie, is gefascineerd door de mysterieuze werkplek van haar mama en oma, waar ze nooit binnen mag. Een dramatische gebeurtenis plaatst de zekerheden in hun levens op een helling en zet de familiebanden onder druk.
In de hoofdrollen zien we o.a. Sara Vertongen (Binnenstebuiten) en haar dochter Esra Vandenbussche, Ingrid De Vos (De Behandeling, Chaussée d’Amour) en Wim Willaert (Eigen Kweek, Offline).
David Williamson tekende voor de fotografie, met Alain Dessauvage als monteur. Frederik Van de Moortel stond in voor de klankband van Le Ciel flamand gebaseerd op muziek van Bert Dockx. Klank en muziek zijn de thema’s van het filmfestival van Aubagne.
De film ging vorig jaar in wereldpremière op het Toronto International Film Festival. Na tussenstops op de Festivals van San Sebastian en Londen, was hij bij ons in aanloop van zijn bioscooprelease te zien op het Film Fest Gent. Vervolgens ging het naar o.a. Talinn , Göteborg, Rotterdam en Cinequest.
Le Ciel Flamand komt op 28 maart uit on demand en op DVD in de reeks Lumière Cinema Selection.
Producenten zijn Annemie Degrypse, Jan De Clercq en Alexander Vandeputte voor Lunanime (de productietak binnen de Lumière Groep).
Le ciel flamand kon rekenen op steun van het VAF/Filmfonds van Vlaams minister van Cultuur Sven Gatz. Daarnaast investeerde het economisch fonds Screen Flanders, een initiatief onder de bevoegdheid van Vlaams Minister van Economie Philippe Muyters en Minister van Cultuur Gatz, ook in de film.

Résumé
Monique tient, avec sa fille Sylvie, une maison close au bord d’une route nationale à la frontière franco-belge. Eline, la fille de six ans de Sylvie, est fascinée par le lieu mystérieux, mais s’en voit constamment refuser l’accès. Le jour de son anniversaire, elle décide de braver l’interdit et d’y entrer.
